The Throwback was inspired by the cumulative love of two things: sports and history. It’s one thing to follow sports, but just like anything else, you can’t fully appreciate something until you understand where it came from.
Here at The Throwback, we’re not going to preach about the good old days. We’re not going to pester you with how Ted Williams or Bill Russell are better than Manny Ramirez or Dwight Howard. But we are going look beyond the headlines, and examine issues in sports with one eye on the past.
After all, the stats on the sports page rarely tell the whole story. Legendary Penn State coach Joe Paterno may have put it best:
“What counts in sports is not the victory, but the magnificence of the struggle.” ~ Joe Paterno
